Ever wanted to start your own business? Now you can!
In 2017, West End created an entrepreneurship program focused on educating aspiring small business owners on the fundamentals of starting their own businesses and helping existing businesses expand. The program is based on five primary components: (1) business training, including classroom instruction and one-on-one mentoring focused on the basic elements of starting a business; (2) business support, such as topic-specific workshops taught by local experts; (3) loans/access to credit, provided by local Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI); (4) technical support; and (5) community business growth.
Since its creation, the program has helped create or retain 322 jobs, trained 253 entrepreneurs and started or stabilized/scaled 147 businesses.
57 participants have graduated from Launcher’s Spanish-language class, and a total of 127 in Wilmington’s classes on the West Side have graduated, 31 of whom have addresses outside the City of Wilmington.
